Introduction
How to best start blogging if not with first blog being about my personal journey as an professional Agile Coach.
This blog is all about my journey from being a Developer to becoming QA and for the first time back in 2018 discovering Scrum, one of the most famous Agile Frameworks.
Becoming part of IT World in 2018 and Scrum Mastery
Back in 2018, I had my first encounter with the IT world, starting as a C# and Unity Developer for a software delivery firm called Creative Studio Form (.
After a few months, I realized that development wasn’t my calling, so I transitioned into a manual QA role within the same company, with some exposure to Jenkins and automation.
Shortly thereafter, the CEO at the time asked me, “Look into Scrum and see if it can be implemented in our environment.” That moment changed everything.
After reading the Scrum Guide and expanding my knowledge through various blogs and courses, I realized this was something I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life because you have to work with dynamic behaviour of people and different processes.
First Implementation of Scrum Framework and Growth as a Scrum Master
My first milestone and challenge as a Scrum Master was implementing Scrum for Creative Studio Form wasn’t so easy. We worked on Furniture Configurator for one of the modern furniture companies in Switzerland called Livique, various themes for Ionic, and graphics for Adobe, Envato, and Dribble.
Organizing the company of 20 people across three sectors: Development, Design, and UI/UX was a challenge in the first place and strugleness was taking it’s place. We actively used Scrum elements such as Accountabilities, Scrum Artifacts, and Scrum Events.
Using these Scrum elements and working hand-in-hand with CEO at that time, we saw quick and transparent improvements in effectiveness, productivity, and stakeholder satisfaction.
That was the moment I realized that Agile and Scrum are something that I want to do for the rest of my life because of being a servant-leader and making sure that I can set people up for success in their journey.
Commitment to Continuous Learning and Certifiactions
As someone who always prioritizes continuous learning and personal growth to become better and to validate my understanding with various professionals in the game called Scrum, I earned my first certification from Scrum.org back in 2021. – Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I)
After earning my certification, I became passionate about Scrum Framework and continued my education through various books, videos, blogs, and additional certifications. I also learned new Agile Frameworks like Professional Kanban,Evidence-Based Management, Extreme-programming (XP), Test-driven development (TDD), Behaviour-driven development (BDD), and Hypothesis-driven development (HDD).
List of my professional certificates you can see on this page.
Transitioning from Scrum Master to Agile Coach
A Scrum Master works inside-out meaning, within the Scrum Team to wider organization, while an Agile Coach operates at the organizational level, outside-in.
To become an Agile Coach, you must be Agile-pragmatic, not Scrum-dogmatic, meaning knowledge of various Agile frameworks is essential such as specialization in different areas is also necessary:
- Facilitation
- Coaching
- Mentoring
- Teaching
- Servant-Leadership
- Change-Management
- Impediment-Removing (Organizational impediments)
- Managing (impediments, organizational health, conflict-management, etc.)
This transition took several years, allowing me to take on greater responsibilities, such as working with C-level executives, senior management, and founders.
Additionally, being a coach, mentor, and facilitator is crucial for an Agile Coach to empower Agile teams to become high-performing and self-managing, delivering maximum value to end users.
Conclusion
My journey from a Developer to QA and to an Agile Coach has been filled with learning, challenges, and growth.
Embracing Scrum and other Agile frameworks has not only shaped my career but has also allowed me to help organizations and teams achieve their highest potential.
I hope my story inspires you to pursue continuous learning and to find your true calling within the Agile world.
